It’s no surprise that a state that played such an important part in American independence takes its Fourth of July celebrations seriously! Pennsylvania plays host to a wonderful array of festivals, carnivals, concerts, and fireworks extravaganzas! Grab the kids or your friends and head out for a holiday full of fun, food, and freedom.
As one of the largest, free Fourth of July events in the entire country, Philadelphia’s tribute to our original rebels is not to be missed, even if it means a bit of a drive. Start with the Party on the Parkway, which celebrates American heritage, as well as the multitude of cultures and backgrounds currently inhabiting the City of Brotherly Love. Enjoy games, entertainment, arts & crafts, and even a zipline at this five-block extravaganza. When evening comes, settle in for an incredible concert, headlined by Jennifer Hudson. After the concert, prepare to be blown away by an exceptional pyrotechnics display, which features not only fireworks, but a moving soundtrack and even overlay of quotes about our beautiful independence.
An all-day extravaganza hosted at Point State Park, Flashes of Freedom is a boisterous, bright celebration of American Independence. A completely free event, Flashes of Freedom will blow other Fourth Festivities away. Excite the kids with fun activities like crafts and face painting, presented by the Lionheart Event Group. The day features a flag raising ceremony, as well a flyover by the United States Air Force. Venture outside the Fort Pitt Museum for demonstrations, including 18th century reenactments. When dark falls, enjoy a choreographed, sound-tracked firework display to rival the best in the world.
Central PA 4th Fest has enough activities to entertain even the pickiest patriots. Enjoy a 4K/4M race, followed by an incredible parade, and a vast variety of children’s activities. Explore unique events like a demonstration in chainsaw carving, a roller derby competition, and BMX stunt show. Sign or sponsor a “thank you” card to an active military member, and never forget the sacrifices made for freedom. End the day with an incredible firework display set to music!
The quintessential Independence Day event on the Pennsylvania Main Line, Narberth 4th of July Celebration is simply not to be missed. Daytime activities include a carnival, games, a parade, races, and even a dunking booth! When night comes, be dazzled by one of the best fireworks displays in the entire United States.
Lancaster Village puts on a weekend jam-packed with Independence Day excitement! Starting on July 1, enjoy carnival rides and a night filled with music. On July 2, be sure to stop by the beer garden and watch the Carnival Kids Steel Orchestra. The multi-day event is capped off on July 4 with a flag raising ceremony, parade, and of course, fireworks!

Celebrate our independence in our incredible capital of Harrisburg with a deliciously different take on Fourth of July festivities! The Taste of Independence Food Truck Festival takes place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Riverfront Park, and packs enough pumped up patriotism for the whole family! More than 30 food trucks convene, with a vast array of flavors, from stuffed pretzels to gigantic lobster rolls to fried Oreos. Enjoy your food alongside some fun as you explore children’s activities, entertainment, and one of the largest fireworks displays in the region!
There are few more fitting locations for a celebration of independence than Gettysburg, a site that helped secure the continuation of our freedoms and traditions. Start your evening with a set by beloved local band, the Willys, followed by a performance by the Gala Pops Orchestra. Enjoy a local craft beer or wine during the concert, alongside some incredible food vendors. Finish out the evening with a beautiful firework display as you reflect on our collective history.
For a slightly more scholarly take on America’s independence, visit the Fort Pitt Museum in Pittsburgh. Help raise a 36-foot garrison American Flag alongside scouts and colonial reenactors. Then, enjoy historical demonstrations and performances of colonial, military music, such an important part of our struggle for freedom. The Yinzer Singers will be singing a very special National Anthem.
A free event presented by York Traditions Bank, July4York is a great, family friendly way to spend the special day. Enjoy a hot air balloon ride, and a roster of Americana music. Also if you are inclined, grab a ticket or two to see the Rev’s play ball at the PeoplesBank Park. Delight the kids with inflatables and lawn games, and cap off the day with a stunning pyrotechnics display!
