Liberty Mountain and Carroll Valley golf course were originally developed in the mid 1960's as a focal point for a major real estate development. The name of the ski mountain and the development was Charnita, named after Charles and Anita Rist, the developer and his wife. Charlie Rist brought in a gentleman named Dick Brown to develop and manage the ski area. Dick Brown had just designed Ski Roundtop the year before. It would only be about ten years later that the Charnita development suffered unfortunate bankruptcy, and Ski Roundtop's owner Snow Time, Inc. would purchase the ski mountain and rename it Ski Liberty. The golf course and cluhouse was sold separately. In the late '90s, Ski Liberty was renamed Liberty Mountain Resort to be more enticing to snowboarders and to address the resort's growing focus on wedding, banquet and conference business. In 2003, Boulder Ridge Snow Tubing was added to the growing list of resort amenities. In May of 2010, Liberty Mountain purchased the golf course, clubhouse and additional facilities, bringing the resort back to it's four season vision.

The resort is owned by Snow Time, Inc. which also owns two other area winter sport resorts, Whitetail Ski Resort and Ski Roundtop. The three resorts offer many season pass options and the popular Advantage Cards that are good at any of the three resorts. The three resorts are all within easy day-trip driving distance of the Washington DC/Baltimore areas.

My 18 year old son wanted to learn how to play golf. My husband and I are not very good golfers and had not played in over 20 years, so we thought family lessons would be fun. Our friends recommended Liberty Mountain Resort. I'm so glad we took their advice. We signed up for the "stay, play, and learn package" which included: 2 nights lodging, dinner and breakfast 3 one hour group lessons 2 nine hole playing lessons 2 nine hole rounds 1 eighteen hole round We loved having a formal lesson every day at either the driving range or putting green and then putting that knowledge into practice on the golf course. We couldn't ask for a better instructor. Gavin Green was knowledgeable, friendly, and an excellent instructor. But the thing we liked most about Gavin is how he greeted us in the morning. He would say "I was thinking about your swing and I want you to try..." He took our instruction seriously. Additionally he made golf fun. One of the days was rainy and we thought we would have to forgo our lesson, but Gavin had reserved two indoor simulators for us. We liked it so much - after our lesson was over, we continued to play. We used the simulator for 5 hours! We enjoyed the weekend so much, on the way home, we talked about making this trip a family tradition.

Lovely place. Came here for my cousins wedding and everything was wonderful. The scenery was beautiful and everything went so smoothly. The staff was pleasent and had good timing as to not interrupt conversation or photos. I have been here before for skiing and had a wonderful time but I did not expect them to be this great as a wedding and reception hall.

I was in my brothers wedding and didnt have water to use in our room at all. It was dirty and brown for the entire weekend we were there. I asked for maintenance to come by which they did very quickly, only to say, if you run it, it will clear up. I ran it for and hour and a half and it was still full of sand and dirt and the water was very brown. Then I asked to move rooms because I was in the bridal party and needed to shower and be presentable for my brothers wedding and no one wanted to help me. I'm also disabled and NO ONE let me know that the hotel they put me in is under construction and the elevator was not in service. So I had to basically climb the stairs. I'm INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED with this resort. I will never return again.

I have been skiing at Liberty 35 years. The new hotel is very good with 2 great restaurants, saltwater pool and hot tub. Golf course is a challenge with beautiful views especially hole 12 Tee. The slopes are very good for beginners with just 3 short high speed runs for experienced riders. For a quick bite try McGee's Tavern just off the slopes. Rentals, Proshop, everything one needs to enjoy the area.

Bad snow, but it's not their fault, just bad location. Most convenient resort for most people in the dmv. The lodge is what you'd expect from a ski resort... Overall, best trait is convenience.
